Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at westvalleypoolservice@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

These are the 10-steps of a typical weekly service visit:

  1. Enter the backyard, secure the gate (in case of pets), and place caddy by the skimmer lid
  2. Net the top and bottom of your pool
  3. Go to the pool equipment area, empty the pump basket, and turn off your pool equipment
  4. Go to the skimmer and empty the skimmer basket(s) and/or any other basket traps
  5. Test your pool water for chemistry and balance accordingly
  6. Brush the walls, steps, and benches
  7. Re-net any remaining debris from the top and bottom of your pool
  8. Go back to the equipment area, visually inspect your equipment for potential issues & turn off (unless we've added chemicals requiring additional pool circulation)
  9. Leave our service tag with time, date, and the services performed tucked in your skimmer lid
  10. Exit the backyard leaving the gate securely shut behind us (keyed or combo locks can be added to gates for security)

Between services, Homeowners are recommended to empty their pump & skimmer baskets, and remove any large debris, pool toys, and/or rocks that tend to clog cleaning systems and damage your equipment or pool vacuum. It is especially important to remove this debris during monsoon season!

Our billing is produced using QuickBooks Online and is emailed out by the 5th of the month. Billing is due by the end of the month, or late payment fees may apply.

Our billing cycles only charge our customers for 4 weeks per month. As such, 4 weeks per month for 12 months equals 48 weeks of billing per year. Instead of charging for a 5th week every 4 months or a "13th month" every year, our pool techs prefer to take the week of Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break (third week of March), and Fall Break (second week of October) as pre-scheduled & planned time off.

The most common way our customers pay is by using the QuickBooks Online link from your monthly bill or invoice. We also accept bank checks, bank auto-pay, or Zelle.

Chemicals included at no extra charge per month: up to one (1) gallon of liquid chlorine or one (1) lb. of granulated chlorine (sanitizer), up to one (1) gallon of muriatic acid (lowers pH), sodium bicarbonate or soda ash (raises pH) & Diatomaceous Earth (DE).

Chemicals not included (additional charges apply): 3" chlorine tabs (please read "The Homeowner provides a bucket of 3" chlorine tabs" on this FAQ page), additional amounts of any "included chemicals" beyond stated monthly limits, 40 lbs bags of salt, various algaecides (liquid or powdered), stabilizers (cyanuric acid) & phosphate remover (if not part of 2x yearly filter cleaning cycle).

Yes, that is correct, each Homeowner is required to provide a source of 3" chlorine tabs for our pool techs to use on your pool only. The bucket of chlorine tabs should be located near the pool equipment so our pool techs will have access. Your tabs will ONLY be used for your pool!

Homeowners can purchase 3" chlorine tabs directly from WVPS at wholesale prices, or are free to source their own preferred chlorine tabs so long as they are of sufficient quality and purity.

This practice helps keep our costs of monthly service as low as possible, which means lower monthly rates for Homeowners. WVPS is a large wholesale buyer of 3" chlorine tabs. We use our buying power to offer Homeowners the lowest prices on purchasing chlorine tabs for their pools.

All cartridge & D.E. (Diatomaceous Earth) filters are required to be thoroughly cleaned and inspected two (2) times yearly, or more upon request. The twice-yearly filter cleaning cycle occurs at the beginning of April and October.

One (1) week prior to each filter cleaning cycle WVPS will administer Orenda PR-10000 - a phosphate removal chemical, at no extra cost!

This very important step will concentrate the phosphates allowing your pool's filter to trap this contaminate until it's safely removed during filter cleaning.

Yes, all of our pool technicians take four (4) weeks of vacation each year. Their four (4) weeks are never consecutive, and never during the summer months. For more details about how vacation time works for our pool technicians, please read "How am I billed or invoiced & when is it due by?" on this FAQ page.

Homeowners don't necessarily need to perform a full service of their pool during the vacation week but are recommended to empty their pump & skimmer baskets, and remove any large debris, pool toys, and/or rocks that tend to clog cleaning systems and damage your equipment or pool vacuum.

Yes, WVPS installs and maintains all brands of salt systems. Saltwater pools provide a softer, silkier feel for you and your family while avoiding the costs, smells, spills, and storage of harmful pool chemicals.

We recommend draining your pool every 3-5 years as a preventive maintenance measure to protect your investment. As pool water ages, some of your water test readings will naturally increase, which can lead to an unhealthy swimming environment. Even though your pool water may be clear now, you could still be on a path for algae outbreaks. Here in the West Valley, we have hard water (from calcium), and draining the water every 3-5 years will help minimize the white calcium line growing on your pool tile.

Nope, not with WVPS.

Here is a link to our Google reviews. We would appreciate it if you take a minute to add your own honest review of WVPS. Thank you!
